Summertime is one of the peak seasons for allergies like Hay Fever and neurodermatitis. So, it is time to publish an article about the more profound psychological implication of this ailment and how we can approach it from a homeopathic perspective. Fortunately, I found a great treatise by Antonie Peppler, the inventor of Creative Homeopathy, which I translated and published. Enjoy
The deeper reasons for allergies and
the homeopathic possibilities of its treatment
Today new allergies seem to be accumulating faster than we can keep track of them. Patients with neurodermatitis, hay fever, dust mite allergies, nickel allergies, and so on populate the waiting room. Popular publications on the topic name environmental toxins as the leading cause. Above all, modern medicine is of this opinion and considers allergies as practically incurable. It has diseases, viruses, bacteria, etc., as its enemies.
Diseases are considered entirely separate from mankind and have to be “fought.” Man becomes threatened and is at the mercy of illness—the situation often seems hopeless.
From the perspective of homeopathy, every cause of the disease is to be found within man himself. Every symptom is a signal, an expression of a repressed conflict of which one is no longer conscious. For example:
- Knee pains signify that a person must bow to a situation that is repugnant to him.
- Gallstones signify materialized rage that is not expressed verbally.
Only when a person is genuine and his actions and intuitive goals, his…
- inner voice
- calling
- personality
- natural authority
are in harmony with each other, is he then healthy!
Allergies as a sign of repression
Important issues that have become a burden can be repressed when there is a pressing reason, such as securing one’s existence or wanting to be loved. This leads us directly to the topic of allergies.
To be allergic means: not being able to put up with someone or something and to have repressed this fact for some particular reason. “Behind every allergy, there stands a person.” This person is seen as the oppressor who pushes the allergy patient to suppress his life force, joy in life, or particular needs—in short, he forces him to play a role.
Childhood imprints
Allergies arise mostly during childhood but fundamentally in a dependency situation. The person is dependent upon someone else’s support and cannot consciously show his dissatisfaction or defensiveness to the one caring for him. As a result, personal development is sacrificed to secure the means of existence. The thought of “not being able to do it alone” blocks one’s further development.
Such paradoxical behavior forms the basis of every allergy. The most important homeopathic remedy for paradoxes is Ignatia.
The psychological significance of Ignatia
Through great suppression, an emotion becomes its opposite. Hysterical grief. Doing the opposite of what one would like—smiling instead of expressing justified aggression.
Allergies speak a subtle language
Allergies speak an understandable language that only needs to be translated. There are five points that you must be aware of to bring about deep healing of an allergy:
1st point: The extent of the symptoms of the particular allergy
expresses something about the intensity of the patient’s suffering.
Taking hay fever as an example, we find the following typical symptoms:
- watery, burning eyes ›› sad, defenseless
- sneezing ›› wants to cry out
- runny nose ›› whining over a hurt to the personality (nose = personality)
The allergy patient describes his symptoms: he does not feel acknowledged and wants to cry out but feels helpless. Why he feels this way is expressed through the allergy.
2nd point: The allergy relates to a basic emotional attitude.
- grass allergy ›› must be stable in order to upright himself after being stepped on
The patient who is allergic to grass pollen demands of himself stability and uprightness, so that others can lean on him. When he collapses, he stands up again immediately.
3rd point: In which form does the allergy patient
communicate with his environment?
- If the allergy attacks are intense ›› he is still unconsciously aggressive
- If the allergy attacks are uniform ›› he has already unconsciously resigned himself to his situation
You can recognize whether an allergy patient still has the strength to defend himself or is already indifferent and resigned through how the allergy patient communicates through his body language. On the outside, he always has a friendly manner, never understands what’s going on, and does not perceive conflict.
4th point: The selection of the homeopathic remedy
With the homeopathic remedy selected based on the symptom language, the allergy patient can bring his previously negative experiences back into consciousness, repeating them (= homeopathic principle) and judging them anew.
- i.e., Dulcamara ›› authority figures may not be questioned or criticized
“Wet and cold life situation. Life feeling: something is wrong but may not be questioned. An institution may not be questioned.”
The allergy patient helped by Dulcamara is in a life situation in which he is accompanied by an overbearing person or institution. On the one hand, this is support for him. On the other, it symbolizes oppressive or violent elements in his life.
If he develops the ability to view these authorities from a position of equality, he could understand his allergy to that which it is. Through a consciously initiated confrontation leading to a resolution of the situation, the supposed dependency can become a springboard to independence and self-responsibility.
Please note that Dulcamara is only an example and not the panacea for allergies
5th point: Healing and recovery
The allergy patient can now consciously change his judgment of a clearly defined situation. In a new situation, his body no longer needs to overreact from the outset, and he can express himself verbally in ordinary speech.
Homeopathic conclusions
The hay fever patient who has an allergic reaction to grass pollen demands of himself that he perseveres, that he does not defend himself against those in authority upon whom his existence depends. He is unconsciously enraged that the plant can spread its creativity (= pollen) around everywhere, and he must. Instead, he wants to discipline himself to be supported to receive a love that is only a pretense.
In neurodermatitis, the paradox must be resolved:
“wants to have support”
and
“rejects closeness”
For the patient with neurodermatitis, “being cared for” and “suffering oppression” or at least “having to conform” are interconnected. The neurodermatitis patient must become aware, initially through the homeopathic treatment, that he is stable enough by himself and that he does not need anyone to survive. Only then can he give up the defensive reaction to other people, as expressed by his skin rash, for good.
The basis of neurodermatitis “being cared for” is symbolized by milk. About 200 years ago, the word “milk” (= being cared for) received a second connotation through the development of the smallpox vaccination (Edward Jenner, 1796). The smallpox vaccine was produced based on cowpox disease. From this, there arose a double bind anchored (often in multiple ways) in the genetics of almost all people in western cultures.
“The cow is the substitute for the mother. It gives me milk and supports me.”
“The cow is sick and makes me sick.”
In this paradox lies the essential cause for the change in our times in the mother-child relationship. Mothers often don’t want to restrict themselves to just the role of the mother and have the desire to realize themselves just like anyone else. For the children, the mother is no longer the person of authority but is often looked at more as an equal partner and sometimes even as the weaker partner.
The positive side of the smallpox vaccination
The positive side of the smallpox vaccination is that the rigid roles within the family are put into question by this paradoxical message giving room for the development of self-responsibility for parents and children. Overcoming the symptoms of neurodermatitis indicates that self-responsibility has been achieved in broad measure.
With the treatment of neurodermatitis, it is advisable to undertake vaccine detoxification for smallpox and other vaccinations. In this manner, the neurodermatitis patient becomes more responsive to homeopathic therapy, and healing can take place with few problems hindering it.
Vaccine detoxification is a unique process in which the vaccine is prepared as a homeopathic nosode and given together with another selected homeopathic remedy.
The above considerations clarify why neurodermatitis is often triggered (not caused) by vaccinations. It is important to note that milk allergy is a fundamental issue behind every other allergy. This is true even when it cannot be identified by energy-measuring devices at the beginning of the allergy treatment.
